Computer programming is the fundamental engine of modern science, enabling researchers to automate data collection and perform complex statistical analysis on datasets far too large for manual processing. By writing custom code, scientists can build bespoke simulations and mathematical models that predict everything from climate patterns to viral outbreaks with high precision. For communication, programming allows for the creation of interactive data visualisations and web-based tools that let the public explore research findings firsthand. This transparency fosters reproducibility—a core tenet of the scientific method—and transforms static results into dynamic, accessible digital stories.

Insight has a whole Division established for Data Science and Information Technology, and computer programming is at the heart of our research projects.
