Brisbane Festival

The Brisbane Festival is Queensland’s largest annual international arts festival, transforming the city into a vibrant, creative hub for three weeks every September. Originating from the Warana Festival in the 1960s and evolving into its current form in 1996, it brings together a diverse, world-class program of theatre, music, dance, circus, comedy, and opera. The festival is known for blending major international performances with local talent, hosting over 100 shows, many of which are free.

A major highlight is the annual Riverfire fireworks display, which lights up the Brisbane River, bridges, and city skyline, attracting crowds of around one million people. The festival uses the entire city as its stage, with performances taking place in theaters, parks, and on city streets. The 2024 and 2025 festivals featured a "Boldly Brisbane" approach, showcasing spectacular public installations, First Nations stories, and major cultural collaborations, cementing Brisbane's reputation as a cultural powerhouse.
