World Science Festival
The World Science Festival Brisbane (WSFB) is an annual celebration of discovery, innovation, and creativity. Since its launch in 2016, it has become the only global extension of the original New York festival and is hosted exclusively by the Queensland Museum Network.
The festival aims to move science from the laboratory into the public sphere through a diverse range of formats:
Public Engagement: Features world-renowned scientists, Nobel Laureates, and cultural figures in high-production debates, live performances, and thought-provoking discussions.
Interactive Learning: Includes hands-on workshops, lab tours, and the popular SparkLab at the Queensland Museum Kurilpa.
Arts Integration: Incorporates Curiocity Brisbane, a series of large-scale public art installations that explore the intersection of science and technology.
Statewide Reach: While centered in Brisbane's Cultural Precinct, the festival delivers regional programs across Queensland, including Townsville, Gladstone, and Toowoomba.
The event traditionally takes place over 10 days in March, attracting over 2 million attendees since its inception. It serves as a vital platform for STEM education, inspiring the next generation of problem solvers through dedicated school programs and career-focused sessions.
Insight CEO, Dr Mark Griffin, is an active volunteer with the World Science Festival. Insight is particularly interested in events around animal welfare and environmental protection, robotics and artificial intelligence, the use of entertainment technology such as virtual reality, space exploration, and the amazing work across the entire Festival to present science in a truly engaging and interactive way.
