Engineers Australia

Engineers Australia (EA) is the peak professional body for engineering in Australia, established in 1919 and representing over 140,000 members. As a not-for-profit organisation, its purpose is to advance the science and practice of engineering, set professional standards, and act as the national voice for the profession. EA is authorized by the Australian government to assess engineering skills for migration and accredits university programs to ensure they meet international benchmarks (Washington, Sydney, and Dublin Accords). Engineers Australia supports a broad spectrum of engineering disciplines, ranging from traditional fields to specialized modern areas. While they cover 16 primary areas of engineering, they focus heavily on the "Big Four" of civil, mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering, as well as structural engineering. Other specific areas they look at include:

  • Infrastructure & Civil: Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, and Transport.

  • Industrial & Mechanical: Mechanical, Manufacturing, Plant, and Production.

  • Technology & Systems: Software, Electrical, Telecommunications, Mechatronics, and Robotics.

  • Resources & Environment: Environmental, Mining, Petroleum, and Subsea.

  • Specialized Fields: Aerospace, Fire Safety, Biomedical, and Heritage and Conservation.

In addition to these, they focus on emerging fields like renewable energy, AI, and smart cities.

Insight CEO, Dr Mark Griffin, is a computer and biomedical engineer, and is certified as a Senior Engineer with Engineers Australia. He sits on the Queensland Biomedical Engineering and Gold Coast committees.
