Virtual Production

Virtual production is transforming science communication by enabling the immersive, real-time visualization of complex, abstract, or microscopic scientific concepts. By replacing green screens with LED volumes and using game engines, scientists and communicators can bring audiences directly into a simulation—such as navigating a blood cell, touring a distant planet, or modeling molecular structures.

The primary importance of this technology lies in its ability to:

  • Increase Engagement: It boosts audience engagement and curiosity through high-fidelity, interactive, and compelling visual storytelling.

  • Provide Accessibility: It allows for "virtual field trips" to hazardous, remote, or inaccessible locations (e.g., deep sea or space), without physical danger.

Furthermore, virtual production supports sustainability by reducing the need for travel to remote locations and decreasing waste in set construction. It acts as a powerful tool to bridge the gap between complex research and public understanding.

Insight is currently developing new methods for exploring brain anatomy using Virtual Production within our own research. Our expertise is in mathematical modelling and computer programming using software such as Python, Unity and Unreal Engine.
